Desktop app

The Tenon menubar timer for macOS — track billable time without leaving your workflow.

What the desktop app does

The Tenon desktop app adds a menubar timer to macOS. You can start, stop, and switch project timers from the menubar without opening your browser. When you stop a timer, Tenon automatically creates a time entry on your timesheet.

Downloading

Get the latest version from usetenon.com/desktop. The app is a signed macOS application (Apple-notarized) available as a DMG for both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Starting a timer

Click the Tenon icon in your menubar. You’ll see your recent projects listed — click one to start timing. The elapsed time shows next to the icon. Click the icon again and choose Stop to log the time.

Idle detection

If your Mac has been idle for 5 minutes (configurable in Settings), Tenon will ask whether you were actually working. You can keep the time, switch projects, or discard the idle period so your logs stay accurate.

Stale timer alerts

Forgot to stop the timer? Tenon will prompt you if a timer runs longer than 4 hours (configurable) — so you don’t accidentally log 18 hours on a Friday afternoon project.

Auto-start with macOS

Enable Open at login in the desktop app’s Settings to have the menubar timer ready whenever you sit down to work.
